    Martha Moore was born in Bayonne, New Jersey and a student at the New York Art Students League between 1943 and 1945. She was awarded three scholarships for her ability. A painter of landscapes, figure studies, and portraits, she has won fifty-eight prizes for her work, including three Gold Medals of Honor and the coveted Isaac Maynard Portrait Award presented at the National Academy Art Annual. Miss Moore's reputation is international, and she has exhibited in all fifty of the United States as well as in museums and university shows in Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Scandinavia and France. She has had one-woman shows in New York City, Provincetown, Philadelphia, Florida, and New Jersey and has demonstrated her technique at the National Academy, museums, schools, and art organizations.

    An expressionist by pursuasion, Miss Moore creates shadowy, sun-splashed canvases, that seem to move and shift, and so expose continuities between the old masters and the urgencies of contemporary life. Her colors are warm and iridescent. They are applied in loose but well-controlled brushstrokes that add mystery and a sense of fleeting time to the subjects that she captures in mysterious, evanescent moments. Such a technique stirs in the viewer emotion rather than recognition of a particular, photographically exact portrayal either of a face or a scene, and this highly individual approach results in psychologically stimulating paintings. Miss Moore now divides her time between High Bridge, New Jersey, and her summer studio in Rockport, Massachusetts.
